Prescription Drugs and the Drug Industry
(1/16/12)- According to a report from the Department of Health and Human Services, the number of prescriptions rose just 1.2% in 2010, and total retail spending on prescription drugs also grew 1.2%, to $259 billion, the slowest rate of growth in 51 years.
A recent edition of the journal Health Affairs published the results of the study.
As a result of the recession and cutbacks by the drug companies, they have slashed 33,000 sales jobs in the U.S. from its peak five years ago, when the industry employed 105,000 sales representatives.
